Bing Increases Market Share

Bing reports that it reached of a market share of 12.5%, up from the previous high of 10% in January. Yahoo search however, seems to be continuing to see it’s search usage decrease.

According to Danny Shepherd, President of Titan SEO, “We expect to see Bing’s market share continue to grow, but it is very unlikely it will maintain the same rate of growth every month. People are interested in checking out Bing and new Search Alliance, but most people who ‘Google’ will continue to search that way.”

SEO at Road Runner Produces Big Results

A recent article on Internet Retailer talks about how Road Runner Sports increased its traffic by 30% by altering its site search and insuring that the site was search engine-friendly.

Road Runner used analytics to figure out what products users were looking for that they did not carry. They changed the site so the visitors who looked for that certain product, were taken to a similar product from another vendor.  Customers saw the similar product and decided to buy even though it was a different vendor. The change resulted in an increased purchase of 1,200 pairs of a similar shoe in just two weeks.

They accomplished the site change by using a product from Celebros that assisted with search on their site.  Celebros claims to provide better search results and higher conversions for ecommerce sites.

Ajax and SEO

Here is a great article on the use of Ajax and its impact on your SEO efforts:

AJAX and SEO is a tricky topic – after all, an AJAX-based website is more or less the same as a FLASH website: it may look fancy but is non-navigatable.  AJAX got its bad SEO reputation for a number of reasons, including:

- crawling issues (you are risking not getting all of your content crawled)

– indexing issues (you are risking not getting all of your content indexed)

– broken website navigation and useless address bar (because all pages load under the same URL)

– useless back/next/reload buttons

– potential cloaking issues – which may be unintentional – where the user sees different content than the crawler

Five Things to Watch When it Comes to Keywords and Ads

Use tools for keyword selection

There are a number of great tools out there that can assist you with determining the right keywords for your site. Some of the favorites:  Wordtracker and Google’s Suggestion tool. Also try SEMRush which provides lists of keywords that others may be using.  Google Trends has some interesting information as well as eBay Pulse.

Track your results

Both Google Analytics and Yahoo Web Analytics can help monitor your progress, and tell you what’s happening with certain keywords/pages.

Write strong ads

It doesn’t matter what keywords you use, or analytics programs, if your ads aren’t drawing in customers and getting them to buy.  Your ad needs to tell the consumer why they need your product, and why they need it Right Now.

Check your landing pages

Make sure that the page that customer lands on is the right one for the keyword.  Nothing frustrates a consumer more when they click on an ad hoping to buy, but then find they have to navigate more pages to get to the right page.

Pay attention to your results

The more relevant your keywords are to your site pages, the better. Googel tracks the number of clicks your ads get.  When your click-rate is not high you won’t be high on the sponsor nav bar.

Too Many Keywords is Trouble

Any successful website marketer knows that keywords are important to organic search engine results. Google typically looks at the number of instances of a particular keyword in a page to determine how relevant that page is to a search for that keyword.  If you have two pages, one with 3 keyword instances, and one with 10 keyword instances, most times google is going see the second page as more relevant.  But too many keywords may also push your page down in the rankings.  Google and the others see too many keywords in a page as spam, and purposely drops it down in the search results, or doesn’t include the page at all.

The trick is getting it just right.  Not too many and not too few.  Some experts have suggested a keyword density within a page of 2% to 4% as the right amount.  Meaning, if you take a page with 500 words, and the number of keywords in the page is 10, you have a keyword density of 2%.  A page with a keyword density of 40 instances would equate to 8% keyword density, which is far too high.

Use the rule of 2 to 4%  for keyword density and you’ll probably never get into to trouble with the SE’s for too many keywords on a page

Natural Search Engine Optimization provides three main benefits that set the difference between traditional and modern marketing – for an affordable price:

  • Specific targeting: Contents can guide search engines’ queries towards punctual websites.
  • Relevance increase: Higher rankings indicate that a website is a reliable source of information in a delimited business field.
  • Brand recognition and trust: Exposition plus relevance adds signs of trust that potential customers recognize and consider before making an investment.

Ilikewebsites.com is an Internet marketing agency that operates through a very simple principle: it is not possible to advertise in a traditional way anymore. Many companies are missing a huge chance of massive promotion. Traditional marketing has a limited range and a narrow effect that, in the end, translates in big investments that report little results.
